The Role Responsibilities:
Strategy
In the role of Head, Commercial Banking, UAE, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing on the Commercial Banking strategy for the UAE, aligning closely with the Country CEO and broader Country and Regional Management teams to successfully deliver against revenue and people agendas.
The selected candidate will formulate, implement, communicate and refresh where relevant, the stretching strategic plans for the UAE Commercial Banking business. The successful individual will be accountable for aligning strategy and process with all parts of the business, delivering returns, growth and other key operating metrics in line with the budget and performance scorecards.
Business
• Deliver returns, growth and other key operating metrics in line with the budget and performance scorecards (e.g., NTB client acquisition, TB product performance, RM attrition).
• Manage within relevant targets and cost budgets.
• Enable the country Commercial Banking business to drive improved returns on RWA, operate within any RWA caps and minimise use of RWA.
• Ensure Loan Impairment is managed well within expected levels for the Commercial Banking business across the business cycle.
• Champion and deliver the overall Commercial Banking change agenda in the country, as required to meet the Group's performance targets and to effectively implement client-facing improvements (e.g., reduced onboarding and BCA TAT metrics).
• Drive the integration of teams, structures and functional support into the Commercial Banking business, including the standardisation of the operating model and delivery of appropriately differentiated segmentation.
Processes
• Drive continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes to increase the consistency of relevant systems and processes.
• Ensure there is a framework for effective management of operational risks across the Business and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations at a global level.
• Ensure delivery of Business strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis - incorporating infrastructure requirements and ensuring that they are fit-for-growth.
• Working with direct reports and peers to ensure a consistent product delivery across the businesses.
People and Talent
• Build, lead and uptier a leadership team of world class Commercial Bankers and ensure that the respective Commercial Banking teams work effectively with all Product partners and other stakeholders (e.g. Risk, ITO, CSG, Compliance, FCC etc).
• Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
• Develop and embed a high performance culture with specific focus on RM capability, effectiveness and productivity in the country.
• Develop talent to ensure a high quality succession pipeline at all levels and sponsor ongoing development activities that focus on the identified high performing and high potential individuals within the businesses.
• Lead and coach a team through effective leadership and engagement.
• Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct and indirect reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
Risk Management
• Ensure there are appropriate frameworks in place to guarantee that business is carried out within the Group's risk appetite and reputational and credit risks are appropriately managed in conjunction with direct reports and other stakeholders.
• Provide oversight across the Business, and through assignment to direct reports and working in conjunction with CMT members ensure compliance with the highest standards of regulatory conduct and compliance standards and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. This includes compliance with anti-money laundering regulations and guidelines.
• Embed the Group's values and code of conduct and develop a robust culture to ensure that adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations among employees.
• Ensure that Risk Management matters that are brought to the job holder's attention are subject to direct remedial action and/or ensure adequate reporting to the relevant Risk Committees.
Governance
• Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group's arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the Business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas.
• Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
• Responsible for delivering 'effective governance'; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any regulatory body in an open and cooperative manner.
• Fulfil supervisory responsibilities in line with supervisory principles.
• Manage regulatory relationships in relation to the business remit.
• Accountable for all escalation from relevant management teams to Group governance committees or to other stakeholders in senior management, risk or control functions as appropriate.
Regulatory & Business conduct
• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
• Lead the Business to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Financial Crime Prevention; The Right Environment.
• Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
Our Ideal Candidate:
Would have preferably led large teams in the UAE previously, either within a Commercial Banking or Corporate Banking focused business.
We are looking for an individual with strong leadership skills, with a demonstrable track record of driving business initiatives and growth.

Arabic language skills would be preferred due to the client base and complexity of the UAE market.
